SAN DIEGO, Calif. - UC San Diego student-athletes Danielle Dahle and Izzy Pozurama were each recognized recently as San Diego Hall of Champions Stars of the Month for the month of October.

The two Triton underclassmen were among six winners at the amateur level. October's professional honorees included San Diego Chargers linebacker Donald Butler, current NFL quarterback and former Helix High School star Alex Smith and NASCAR star Jimmie Johnson (Granite Hills HS). A total of 16 athletes were chosen.

Dahle is a freshman outside hitter on the UCSD women's volleyball team. A La Mesa native from Grossmont High School, she has excelled for head coach Ricci Luyties in just her first season of collegiate volleyball. Dahle averaged 4.03 kills, 2.88 digs and 4.50 points per set over the month, leading UCSD to a 7-2 record, which included a six-match win streak.

Dahle posted double-doubles (kills and digs) in five of nine matches played and had at least 12 kills in all but one contest. She leads the Tritons in kills and points, and is second in digs and service aces and third in blocks. UCSD (18-7, 13-4) sits in second place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) and hosts 24th-ranked and first-place rival Cal State San Bernardino (18-7, 15-2) this Wednesday night, Nov. 7. First serve at RIMAC Arena is set for 7 p.m.

Pozurama is a sophomore forward on the Triton women's soccer squad. Virtually on fire throughout October, she scored all eight of her goals for this season during the month. Each goal came in six Triton victories, including a pair of two-goal efforts as UCSD went 6-1-1 to capture its 11th CCAA South Division title in 13 years.

A native of Lake Forest, Pozurama accounted for the game-winning score in four of those six triumphs. The 2012 All-CCAA Second Team selection is currently second on the team in goals scored and points. Pozurama's sophomore teammate, Cassie Callahan of Coronado, was a Star of the Month for September.

Having just this past Sunday lifted their record eighth conference banner at the conclusion of the 2012 CCAA Championship in Carson and earned the league's automatic NCAA berth, the Tritons learn Monday evening where they will begin their quest for an eighth national crown. The 2012 NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship begins this Thursday, Nov. 8, with a 48-team field.
