The Tritons and UCI met early in the year (Sept. 15), UCSD's second game of the season. Josh Stiling and Luke Syka led the Tritons with two goals apiece. UC Irvine scored to take the lead early on in the final quarter. Stiling's second goal brought the Tritons within one and Tommy Friedrich's goal with just one second left in regulation tied the game at 8-8 and sent it to extra minutes. After netting one in the first three minutes of extra time, the Anteaters took control of the second overtime, netting two more goals to take the match by a score of 11-8.

This season marks the first time since 2009 the teams will play each other more than once in a single season... Three of the past four meetings have been lone goal decisions in favor of UCI.

Thursday's match will mark the final home game for five Triton seniors. A ceremony will take place at the pool prior to the game to recognize the accomplishments of Chris Barton, Lance Curtiss, Brian Donohoe, Brian Roach, and John Butler.

Thursday's game will feature live video and audio streaming. Play-by-play commentary will be done by Craig Elsten and color will feature women's water polo head coach Brad Kreutzkamp. If you haven't already signed up for the FREE subscription, sign up now.

DIETRICH MAKES THREE Athlete of the Week honors have gone to a member of the men's water polo team the past three weeks in a row, with sophomore Joe Dietrich earning the most recent award on Nov. 5. Dietrich led the Tritons with five goals, nearly doubling his season total, in the pair of WWPA victories this past week. In an 11-8 win over UC Davis, Dietrich dished out an early assist and tacked on two goals from the two-meter offense position. Against Santa Clara, he led the offense with a team high three goals in an 11-6 win. Dietrich's award was the fourth won by a Triton water polo player this year (Josh Stiling Sept. 17; Brian Donohoe Oct. 22; Stiling Oct. 29; Dietrich Nov. 5).

The Tritons have won seven straight conference games and stand at 12-2 as the No. 1 seed heading into the WWPA Championship Tournament Nov. 16-18.

Whittier will be hosting the 2012 WWPA Championship Tournament Nov. 16-18 at Slade Aquatics Center. If you can't make it, all games will be broadcast live.
