OMAHA, Neb. - Three standout members of the 21st-ranked UC San Diego baseball team, seniors Ryan Goodbrand and Danny Susdorf and junior Garrett Tuck, were named Monday to the 2013 Tino Martinez Award Watch List.

This year's initial watch list includes 150 top amateur athletes from across the nation. The award is presented to the most outstanding player in NCAA Division II college baseball. The annual honor, now in its fourth season, is named after former University of Tampa Spartan, United States Olympian, first-round draft pick and Major League Baseball All-Star, Tino Martinez.

UCSD is among 21 programs that have three players on the watch list. Semifinalists are expected to be announced on May 6, with finalists trimmed down by May 20 and the winner announced on June 3, two days after the NCAA Division II championship game in Cary, N.C.

Initial nominations for the award were made by baseball sports information contacts, coaches and media members. A panel of media, coaches and sports information officers was polled to finalize the candidates, and will determine the winner. A fan Internet vote also contributes to the final vote.

Susdorf, the Tritons' All-American centerfielder, was a 2012 Tino Martinez Award semifinalist. He is hitting .429 (12-for-28) through six games with team highs of eight runs, four doubles and three steals. Susdorf has extended his career-best hit streak to 23 games to start his final college campaign, and also has not committed an error in the field over his last 182 chances and 73 contests dating back to 2011.

Goodbrand has picked up in 2013 right where he left off in his first season in the program a year ago. The right-hander has thrown 11.0 scoreless frames over his first two starts, both wins, allowing just five hits and two walks while striking out 11. Goodbrand is 13-0 in a Triton uniform and UCSD has gone 15-2 when he pitches.

Tuck, who has made 85 consecutive appearances around the infield diamond for UCSD with 78 starts, is batting .333 (8-for-24) with five RBI through six games.

UCSD, 4-2 on the year through a pair of series victories against tough opponents in Colorado Mesa and Grand Canyon, hosts city rival Point Loma Nazarene on Tuesday night, Feb. 12. First pitch at Triton Ballpark is set for 6 p.m.
