The 18th-ranked UCSD baseball team continues its California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) regular-season schedule this week, taking on the Toros of Cal State Dominguez Hills in a four-game series. UCSD is 8-3 overall, 3-1 in the CCAA, and has posted three straight series victories to begin the new season. Cal State Dominguez Hills is 4-7 overall, 0-4 in league play.

This week's four-game series with Cal State Dominguez Hills will begin in Carson at Toro Field on Thursday, Feb. 21, with a single game beginning at 2 p.m. After another single game at Toro Field on Friday at 2 p.m., the set will shift to La Jolla and conclude with a noon doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 23. Thursday's opener will feature Triton staff ace Ryan Goodbrand, the reigning national, regional and conference Pitcher of the Week, likely up against fellow senior right-hander Sean Wardour. Neither side has announced the remainder of their probable rotation.

All UCSD home games at Triton Ballpark this season again feature a live online video stream and live stats, both free of charge. Weekday conference home games will also have audio commentary, with former Triton pitcher Tim Strombel (2007-08) calling the action. Fans can access live video and live stats from the Schedule/Results tab of the baseball page at Most road games will also at minimum have live stats available, with links active at that same location on the baseball team's Schedule/Results page. This week's two games in Carson will have live audio, free of charge with no registration required. David Smock provides the play-by-play call for the Toro Sports Network starting with a pregame show at 1:30 p.m. each day. Finally, starting lineups, live between-inning updates and other in-game news and notes can be found during home contests by following Triton Baseball all season long on the UCSD Athletics Twitter handle (@UCSDtritons).

General admission tickets to all regular-season home games at Triton Ballpark are $5, and are available for purchase beginning one hour prior to start time. All UCSD students are admitted FREE with valid ID. A parking permit is required on the UCSD campus on weeknights. They can be purchased at the machine near the parking lot entrance.

Cal State Dominguez Hills is 3-6 overall and coming off of suffering a four-game sweep at home to nationally-ranked Chico State last weekend. The Toros have played all nine of their games at home in Carson, and will venture on the road for the first time in 2013 for Saturday's doubleheader in La Jolla. CSUDH, hitting just .244 as a team thus far, are led by Spencer Maxey (.364), Chris Allen (.324) and David Steininger (.316). Projected Thursday starter Sean Wardour (1-1, 5.28 ERA) leads the squad with 15.1 innings pitched and 10 strikeouts. Fellow senior right-hander Dimitri DelaFuente has been the Toros' top contributor out of the bullpen, with a pair of saves and no runs allowed over 9.2 frames and three appearances. The CSUDH staff ERA is at 4.32, and the Toros have committed 15 errors in the field (.958). Murphy Su'a is in his eighth season as the Cal State Dominguez Hills head coach.

UCSD leads the all-time series between these teams, 38-34, and holds a 21-9 advantage over the last 30 meetings since 2007. The Tritons took three of four in last year's split-venue set, winning a pair of contests in La Jolla, 3-1 and 15-6, sandwiched around a doubleheader split in Carson (14-2, 0-1) on April 15. Ryan Goodbrand (W, 6.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 SO) outdueled Sean Wardour (L, 8.0 IP, 3 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 2 SO) in the opener of that one, with the two senior right-handers slated to face each other again at Toro Field on Thursday afternoon.

UCSD moved up for the third straight week, from No. 21 to No. 18, in the latest installment of the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Division II poll, released each Monday. The Tritons dropped out of the first in-season installment of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) ranking, having been at No. 19 on its preseason listing. UCSD went from No. 20 to No. 19 in the College Baseball Lineup poll and held at No. 22 in the D2 Baseball News ranking.

UCSD fell from second (preseason) to fifth in the first in-season National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) West Region Top 10, released on Feb. 18. The Tritons (36 points) are rated behind Chico State (60), which picked up all six first-place votes, Cal Poly Pomona (48), Dixie State (39) and Sonoma State (37). D2 Baseball News has UCSD ranked third in the West behind league rivals Chico State (9-0, 4-0 CCAA) and Cal Poly Pomona (9-2, 2-2 CCAA).

As Triton fans have come to expect, Danny Susdorf is at or near the top of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) in a number of categories already in 2013. The senior centerfielder has the most hits (21), doubles (7) and stolen bases (8) in the league. He has yet to be caught on a steal attempt this year. Susdorf is tied for third in runs scored (15), seventh in batting average (.429), ninth in on-base percentage (.491) and 10th in slugging percentage (.612).

Ryan Goodbrand swept the four possible weekly awards for the week of Feb. 11-17, earning, in succession, Rawlings/California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) West Region, NCBWA National and D2 Baseball News National Pitcher of the Week distinction after tossing 7.0 scoreless frames and striking out a career-high 11 in a 4-0 home win over Cal State Stanislaus on Feb. 15. Goodbrand is now a three-time Rawlings/CCAA and three-time NCBWA West Region Pitcher of the Week honoree for his Triton career.

Danny Susdorf still has his lengthy defensive streak intact, having now handled 189 defensive chances in a row without an error, spanning 78 games dating back to his last charged error on April 29, 2011, at Chico State. He put away all 125 chances without a miscue in 2012 and 29 thus far to begin the 2013 season, including an outfield assist at Grand Canyon.
