SAN DIEGO, Calif. -
UC San Diego's Kayla Hensel
has been named the Worth/California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Softball Pitcher of the Week. The announcement was made Monday by the league.
Hensel earned the award for the second time this season after helping UCSD to a 3-1 series win at league opponent Cal State Monterey Bay last week.
In her three appearances totaling 11.1 innings, the sophomore gave up no runs and scattered just two hits while improving to 8-3 on the season.
In Friday's second game of the series, the Corona native kept the Otters hitless over the final three innings of play to earn her first save of the year. In Saturday's first game of a doubleheader, Hensel went 3.1 innings in relief to earn the win. She capped off the series with her second victory of the day, tossing 5.0 scoreless relief innings.
Hensel earned the conference honor earlier this season for her performances on the mound in a CCAA series against Cal State San Bernardino.
The Tritons continue CCAA play on the road, heading to Cal State East Bay for a four-game set starting on Friday, March 8 at noon.
