Shawna Held was named UC San Diego's Athletics Program Coordinator in August of 2013.
Held’s responsibilities include drafting game contracts for all home competitions, coordinating preseason housing arrangements with Housing and Dining Services and communicating with visiting teams and officials. She assists with the management of postseason bids and hires, trains and supervises the front office student staff.
Prior to UCSD, Held served as an Admissions Advisor/AmeriCorps Member for the Multicultural Outreach Team at Western Washington University’s Office of Admissions and most recently worked as a Lead College Peer Advisor for San Diego Cal-SOAP (Student Opportunity and Access Program).
Held currently volunteers for Girls on the Run. She has interned for the International Rescue Committee’s Summer Soccer Program for refugee girls and has served as an assistant coach for varsity softball program at Hoover High School.
Held graduated from Western Washington in 2010 with a self-designed bachelor's degree with an emphasis on eating disorders. She earned a master's degree in women's studies with an emphasis on female athletes from San Diego State University.
Held was a varsity club water polo player at WWU and earned Second Team Northwest Division honors as a goalie.
During her free time, she is often actively training for marathons and half-marathons.
