Release: Monday 11/25/2013

LA JOLLA, Calif. - For the eighth consecutive season, the UC San Diego women's volleyball team is among the 64 squads to qualify for the NCAA Division II Tournament and will head to San Bernardino to compete in the eight-team West Regional as the No. 3 seed.

UCSD (25-5), ranked 12th nationally, will commence postseason play against Dixie State (17-9), the sixth seed, on Thursday, Dec. 5, at 12 p.m. All West Regional matches will take place at "The Den" at Cal State San Bernardino.

For the seventh time in the last eight years, Cal State San Bernardino (25-5) will play host to the West Regional. The Coyotes, who recently won their eighth straight California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) title, earned the West's top seed and will take on No. 8 Central Washington (15-11) in the opening round.

In other West Region first round match-ups, No. 2 BYU-Hawaii (24-1) will play No. 7 Alaska Anchorage (21-9) and No. 4 Sonoma State (25-5) will face off against No. 5 Western Washington (23-3).

Second round matches will take place on Friday, Dec. 6. The winner of the UCSD/Dixie State contest will play the winner of the BYU-Hawaii/Alaska Anchorage match at 5 p.m. The winner of the Sonoma State/Western Washington tilt plays the victor of the Cal State San Bernardino/Central Washington match at 7:30 p.m.

The West Region title match is slated for Saturday, Dec. 7, at 7 p.m. The winner advances to the NCAA Elite Eight, held Dec. 12-14 at U.S. Cellular Arena in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Cal State San Bernardino and Sonoma State join UCSD from the CCAA. Alaska Anchorage, Central Washington and Western Washington are out of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, while BYU-Hawaii and Dixie State hail from the Pacific West Conference. WWU won the GNAC regular season title, while BYUH was the PacWest champion.

UCSD and Dixie State, which is receiving votes in the AVCA national poll, have never met. It is DSU's first ever appearance in the NCAA postseason. This season, the Tritons placed third in the CCAA with a 17-5 record, while the Red Storm tied for third in the PacWest at 14-6.

Last season, UC San Diego was the eighth seed in the West. The Tritons lost in the first round of the West Regional, 3-1, to host and top-seeded BYU-Hawaii in Laie.
