Brittany Lombardi Earns West Region All-Star Recognition
Release: Tuesday 12/03/2013

LA JOLLA, Calif. - UC San Diego women's volleyball player Brittany Lombardi has been named a Daktronics West Region All-Star. The selections were announced Tuesday.

Lombardi, a senior libero, was named to the second team.

UCSD's top defensive player, Lombardi currently leads the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) in total digs (603) and ranks third in the league and 35th nationally in digs per set (5.20). She is third on the UCSD roster in total service aces (16).

Just one of two Tritons to play in all 116 sets to date this year, Lombardi has totaled 10 or more digs in 29 of 30 matches and 20 or more scoops 16 times.

In 2013, Lombardi established a new UCSD single season record for digs, topping the old mark of 555, set in 2007. The Carmel native also became the ninth Triton in program history to record 1,000 career digs. Her total currently stands at 1,149, which puts her sixth on the school's all-time top 10 list.

It is the first career postseason honor for Lombardi, who is a cognitive science major at Warren College.

Outside hitter Shih Ting Chen of BYU-Hawaii was named the Daktronics West Region Player of the Year. Sonoma State outside hitter Caylie Seitz, the CCAA's Most Valuable Player, was named to the Daktronics second team.

UCSD (25-5), ranked 12th nationally, earned a berth in the NCAA postseason for the eighth consecutive year. As the third seed in the West, the Tritons will take on sixth-seeded Dixie State (17-9) in the first round of the NCAA Division II West Regional on Thursday, Dec. 5, at 12 p.m. The regional is being hosted by top-seeded Cal State San Bernardino, Dec. 5-7 at The Den.
