NEW ORLEANS – The UC San Diego men’s and women’s cross country teams both earned distinctions as one of the 2013 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II All-Academic teams. In addition, four student-athletes were individually honored by the USTFCCCA for their excellence in the classroom.

Seniors Kellen Levy and Matt Lenehan of the men’s program were named to the All-Academic Team, while sophomores Paige Hughes and Chandler Colquitt were named to the women’s All-Academic Team.

“We are really proud of both of our teams and our student-athletes who earned individual honors,” said head coach Nate Garcia. “The balance of academic and athletic excellence that this award represents perfectly embodies what it means to be a Triton.”

Levy is an English literature major at Roosevelt College, while Lenehan is a computer science engineering major at Warren College. Levy, a native of Fresno, and Lenehan, a native of San Diego (Torrey Pines HS), both capped off strong careers in Triton colors as All-CCAA performers in 2013.

Hughes is a chemical engineering major at Warren College. The San Diego native (Valhalla HS) was named to the All-West Region team after finishing 23rd individually at the West Region meet. As a team, the men’s program compiled a team GPA of 3.20 to be one of 92 teams to earn the distinction. The women’s team held a GPA of 3.21 and was among 136 teams awarded a Scholar Team of the Year award.
