It marks the ninth straight year in which UCSD led the 12-member CCAA in honorees for academic excellence. Cal State Monterey Bay had the second-most with 62. All told, a record 567 student-athletes in the conference earned the distinction, up from 511 in 2012-13.
It was an increase of nine Tritons from last year's 74.
To qualify for CCAA All-Academic accolades, student-athletes must be a varsity letterwinner who competed in one of the 12 CCAA-sponsored sports (men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s soccer, women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s golf, men’s and women’s outdoor track and field, baseball and softball) during the 2013-14 academic year.
Student-athletes must also have achieved a grade-point average of 3.40 or higher in a minimum of 24 semester or 36 quarter units completed.
The Triton women’s track and field program led the way for UCSD with a total of 19 earning the award, including four dual-sport performers who also competed in cross country. Men’s track and field and men's soccer were UCSD’s other squads with double-digit honorees at 14 and 13, respectively.
