UCSD Ranked No. 1 in NCSA Power Rankings for Eighth Straight Year

LA JOLLA, Calif. - For the eighth consecutive year, UC San Diego has been ranked No. 1 among all NCAA Division II institutions nationwide in the National Collegiate Scouting Association (NCSA) Power Rankings.

In addition to being named the top Division II school, UCSD was tabbed 12th of all universities in the United States, improving from its No. 17 ranking in 2013.

NCSA's Power Rankings assess the academic and athletics standards of all NCAA programs across the country. The rankings are calculated by averaging a school's Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standing, its NCAA academic success rate and its U.S. News & World Report ranking.

The NCSA Power Rankings list was developed to help prospective student-athletes and their families evaluate the particular strengths of the top colleges and universities at the Division I, II and III levels.

“We created our annual Collegiate Power Rankings to help families find the best colleges around, based on both athletic competitiveness and academic excellence,” said Lisa Strasman, NCSA Athletic Recruiting President & COO.

UC San Diego has been listed in the NCSA's Power Rankings for 10 straight years. The school first appeared in the rankings in 2005 - coming in at No. 26 overall - and has earned a spot in the top 100 every year since. UCSD was ranked as high as No. 4 overall in 2007.

Williams College topped the 2014 rankings for all schools and was followed by Amherst, Stanford, Notre Dame and Middlebury. On the Division II list, UCSD was trailed by Hillsdale, Stonehill, Colorado School of Mines and Adelphi.

“There are a lot of ways to compare schools out there,” said Chris Krause, Founder & CEO of NCSA Athletic Recruiting. “But this tool really helps student-athletes understand how the schools they’re considering will fit both their academic and athletic goals, and ultimately help them become leaders in their chosen professions.”
