Dietrich, Shokoor Named San Diego Hall of Champions Stars of the Month
SAN DIEGO - UC San Diego's Joe Dietrich, a two-meter on the men's water polo team, and Farrah Shokoor, a forward in the women's basketball program, were both recognized Monday among December Stars of the Month by the San Diego Hall of Champions for their athletic performances.
Dietrich was fourth-seeded and sixth-ranked host UCSD’s leading scorer in both games of the 2014 NCAA Championship on Dec. 6 and 7 at the Canyonview Aquatic Center on the La Jolla campus. The fourth-year senior scored two goals in Saturday's semifinal match-up with top-seeded eventual national champion UCLA, and four more in the third-place game against Stanford on Sunday. The Lafayette native recorded his third hat trick of the season in his final match as a Triton. UCSD finished fourth in the NCAA Championship.
Shokoor averaged a double-double with 16.8 points and 12.3 rebounds per game in four contests in the month that saw the Tritons go 2-2. The junior transfer recorded two double-doubles and went over the 10-rebound mark three times during the stretch. The San Diego native (Patrick Henry HS) shot 61 percent (23-38) from the field and 63 percent (5-8) from behind the arc, leading the team in points, rebounds, steals (7) and blocks (3) over the period.
