UCSD

BELMONT, Calif. - The UC San Diego men's basketball team had no trouble collecting its fifth consecutive win Saturday as it rolled to a 76-36 victory over Notre Dame de Namur at Walter Gleason Gym.

Off to its best start since becoming an NCAA Division II team (2000-01), UCSD is now 5-0. NDNU remains winless at 0-5.

As they have done in every game this season, the Tritons shot better than 50 percent from the floor, coming in at 51.7 percent (30-58) for the night. They held the Argonauts to 26 percent (13-50) and out-rebounded them 44-25. UCSD's nine three-pointers equaled a season-high.

"I thought we played well for the second game of a back-to-back," said UCSD head coach Eric Olen. "We had a lot of guys contribute, which is encouraging. We will need everyone to continue to play well as we start conference play next week."

Triton freshman center Chris Hansen went for 16 points and 11 rebounds, both game-highs. He was 7-for-10 shooting in 19 minutes of play and registered 12 points and eight boards in the second half. It was his second double-double of the season.

Aleks Lipovic finished with 15 points, all on three-pointers, while Adam Klie had 10 points. Klie and Drew Dyer each handed out four assists.

The Tritons raced out to a 12-0 lead in the first five minutes of the game. They led 38-15 at halftime after shooting 56 percent (15-27) and making five three-pointers. The Argonauts netted just 17 percent (4-23) of their shots.

In the second half, UCSD's shooting dropped to 48 percent (15-31), but the Tritons matched their first-half output with another 38 points. At the 8:30 mark, a trey by freshman guard Anthony Ballestero gave UC San Diego its first 40-point lead of the game at 66-26. With 1:53 left, a Hansen free throw put the Tritons up by 44 (76-32), their largest advantage of the contest.

NDNU was led by Jalani Davis, who had 12 points and five rebounds.

The 40-point spread was UCSD's largest margin of victory since defeating UC Merced, 92-33, in December of 2013.

The Tritons went 2-0 at NDNU's Thanksgiving Classic as they defeated Holy Names, 74-50, Friday.

UCSD opens its California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) season on the road at Sonoma State on Wednesday, Dec. 2. The Tritons then host Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday, Dec. 4. Both games are set for 7:30 p.m. tips.
