UCSD scored in each of its first four innings to defeat SF State, 5-2. The game was called in the fifth inning due to time.
Lewis lifted a sacrifice fly to left field to plate Maday from third base in the first inning for the first run of the game.
Clewett doubled to ignite the top of the secon and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt from sophomore infielder Kendall Baker. Clewett came home on a Phillips RBI single.
Abeyta drew a walk and then stole second to begin the third inning. Sophomore catcher Lauren Sanders scored Abeyta on a single to the right field.
The Tritons added two more in the fourth frame. With runners on first and third, Maday laid down a bunt single to plate Baker. Abeyta was then walked to load the bases and Lewis hit a sacrifice fly to center field in the next at bat to bring in Van Der Maaten.
Senior right-handed pitcher Hannah Duarte was one out away from a shut out in the bottom of the fifth, but gave up two walks and one and put runners on every base. Edwards came in relief and gave away a two-run single before getting the last out.
"We really competed well today and had some strong pitching from Lexi and Hannah," said Gerckens.
