Dan Golubovic Takes Sixth in Decathlon on Day Two of NCAA Championships
BRADENTON, Fla. - UC San Diego redshirt junior Dan Golubovic took sixth in the decathlon, scoring 7116 points on the second day of the 2016 NCAA Division II Track & Field Championships, Friday at IMG Academy Stadium.
Golubovic scored 3664 points and improved nine spots in the second leg of the decathlon, after sitting in 15th with 3452 points at the conclusion of the first five events on day one. He finished sixth or better in all five events on the day, placing fifth in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.98 for 852 points, second in the discus with a throw of 137’4” for 703 points, second in the pole vault with a clearance of 15’1” for 790 points, third in the javelin with a throw of 187’ for 693 points and sixth in the 1500 with a season-best time of 4:41.66 for 670 points.
Golubovic earns his first All-America honor with his showing. The Manhattan Beach native previously placed 12th in the decathlon at the 2014 NCAA Championships.
Golubovic, junior Savanna Forry and redshirt senior Anthony Capitulo will close out the 2016 NCAA Championships for UCSD, Saturday, May 28. Capitulo will compete in the javelin, starting at 8:30 a.m. PT. Golubovic will participate in the pole vault, beginning at 11:30 a.m. PT. Forry will compete in the high jump, starting at 3 p.m. Live video will be provided by NCAA.com.
