Kevin Wylder - Swimming & Diving

Junior All-American Kevin Wylder was No. 5 UC San Diego’s top performer during two meets last week as the Tritons raced past three Division I squads. In winning an invitational-style home meet on Monday over Air Force and Incarnate Word, Wylder hit the wall first in the 100 fly (50.05) before anchoring the fastest 200 free relay (1:26.33) with a split of 20.73 that topped the field. In a 198-93 dual victory Saturday at CSU Bakersfield, Wylder won both of his individual races, while also taking part in both first-place relays.

Dalayna Sampton - Basketball

Dalayna Sampton helped lead UCSD to two CCAA road victories, stretching the Tritons’ win streak to seven and keeping them alone in first. The junior forward averaged 11.5 points and 11.5 rebounds while shooting 53.8 percent, all team-highs. Sampton notched her second double-double as a Triton with game-highs of 16 points and 12 rebounds at Cal State East Bay. Two nights prior, she grabbed a game-high 11 boards and scored seven points at CSUMB. Sampton has pulled down at least 11 rebounds in four of her last five games.

Christian Oshita - Basketball

Christian Oshita averaged a team-high 16.5 points over two wins that moved No. 23 UCSD to 6-0 in the CCAA, its best-ever start to a conference season. A sophomore guard, he made a team-best seven three-pointers and shot .583 (7-12) from behind the arc. Against Stanislaus State, Oshita totaled a career- and game-high 19 points. He made five treys, including back-to-back triples during a crucial Triton run late. Against Cal State LA, Oshita led UCSD with 14 points. The Tritons are back home on Thursday, Jan. 19.

Joleen Yang - Basketball

Joleen Yang averaged a team-best 17.5 points over two wins that put UCSD into first place alone in the CCAA. The sophomore guard scored a career- and game-high 24 points Thursday against Cal State LA, the most by any Triton this season. The next night, Yang drained another 11 points against Stanislaus State. For the week, she led the Tritons with five three-pointers and a .357 three-point field goal percentage. Yang also made 10 of 11 free throws. UCSD swept its five-game home stand, and returns to RIMAC on Jan. 19.

Chris Hansen - Basketball

Over three games Chris Hansen averaged 19.3 points and 8.7 rebounds, both team-bests. Against Cal State Dominguez Hills, he led all players with 24 points and seven rebounds and hit a game-winning three with 1.4 seconds left. Hansen totaled 12 points and eight boards to help UCSD beat Cal State San Bernardino and recorded a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds against 13th-ranked Western Washington. Overall, the sophomore center shot .550 (22-40) and went 9-for-9 from the free throw line.

Cassie MacLeod - Basketball

Cassie MacLeod helped lead the Tritons to a pair of CCAA wins this past week. On Monday against Cal State Dominguez Hills, she had a team-high 21 points to go along with five rebounds and two assists. Last Friday, the senior forward netted a game-high 20 points while going 9-for-10 from the field in just 14 minutes of play versus Cal State San Bernardino. She also grabbed three rebounds. MacLeod currently leads UCSD in scoring, averaging 12.1 points per game, and rebounding at 6.9 per game.

Chris Hansen - Basketball

Chris Hansen averaged 22.5 points and 8.5 rebounds while shooting 51.6 percent over two California Collegiate Athletic Association wins last week. The sophomore center was 12-for-13 from free throw line. Hansen recorded his sixth career double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds at Cal Poly Pomona, both game-highs, while going 8-for-8 from the free throw line. Against No. 17 Chico State in La Jolla, he scored a game-high 21 points to go along with seven rebounds.

Cassie MacLeod - Basketball

Cassie MacLeod averaged 13 points and 12 rebounds over two California Collegiate Athletic Association games. In a win over Chico State at RIMAC Arena, she earned her second career double-double with 11 points and a career-high 17 rebounds while also adding four assists, two blocks and two steals. On the road at Cal Poly Pomona, the senior forward totaled a game-high 15 points and a team-best seven rebounds. For the season, MacLeod is averaging 10 points and a team-high 7.6 boards.

Christian Oshita - Basketball

First-year Triton Christian Oshita netted a team-high 15 points in a loss at fifth-ranked California Baptist last Tuesday. The sophomore guard was 6-for-10 from the field with a pair of three-pointers while also adding five rebounds and two assists in 27 minutes of play. A transfer from the University of San Diego, Oshita is averaging 11 points and four rebounds for UC San Diego. He has scored at least 10 points in five of six games.

Beth Mounier - Basketball

Beth Mounier was named to the UCSD Thanksgiving Classic All-Tournament Team after helping lead the Tritons to two victories. The senior guard averaged 14.5 points and shot .579, connecting on a team-best 11 field goals. Against No. 23 Saginaw Valley State, Mounier collected 16 points, six rebounds, three blocks, three steals and an assist. The next day, she had 13 points, four boards and two assists versus West Region foe Azusa Pacific. Through six games, Mounier is averaging 10 points and 4.3 rebounds.

Kuba Waligorski - Soccer

Senior center back Kuba Waligorski led No. 10 UC San Diego to a first West Region crown since 1993, and then on to the semifinals of the NCAA Championship through a pair of thrilling home wins this past weekend. He first anchored a 1-0 shutout victory in overtime over 2015 national runner-up Cal Poly Pomona on Friday night, and then produced his first career two-goal brace in the second half to rally the Tritons from a 1-0 halftime deficit to a 2-1 triumph over No. 11 Midwestern State in Sunday’s national quarterfinal.

Jaimie Bryan - Swimming & Diving

Senior tri-captain Jaimie Bryan excelled for No. 6 UCSD at the annual A3 Performance Invitational in Monterey Park last week. She posted a strong consideration qualifier of 1:02.87 in preliminaries of the 100-yard breaststroke Friday morning to virtually book a trip to a fourth consecutive NCAA Championships. Bryan then became the only Triton female to win an event at this year’s A3 Invite by timing 2:14.61 in the 200 breast final on Saturday night, just off her best ever of 2:14.13. UCSD placed sixth in the all-Division I field.

Adam Klie - Basketball

Senior guard Adam Klie led UC San Diego to home wins over teams that were rated third and second in the PacWest preseason poll, respectively, in Dixie State Friday (62-55) and Azusa Pacific Saturday (70-67). He poured in team highs of 16 against Dixie and 20 versus APU, earning CCAA/PacWest Challenge MVP distinction. Klie added eight boards and four assists in Friday's contest, and shot 9-of-14 from the field with seven assists and five boards against the Cougars, playing a team-high 35 minutes each night.

Taylor Tanita - Basketball

Junior guard Taylor Tanita averaged 14.5 points, 8.5 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals as No. 17 UCSD opened the season with two wins at the San Marcos Classic. She shot 58.8 percent (10-17) from the field, 50 percent (5-10) from behind the arc and was perfect (4-4) from the line. The Culver City product had eight points, eight assists and six boards Friday against MSU Billings (88-60). Tanita then matched her career high of 21 points (8-11 FG, 3-5 3PT), with nine assists and three steals, as UCSD upset No. 2 CBU, 82-74.

Sam Palano - Soccer

Senior Sam Palano scored at 93:30 to give No. 10 UCSD a come-from-behind 2-1 overtime victory over No. 2 seed Sonoma State in the CCAA Tournament final Sunday afternoon in Turlock. The top-seeded Tritons were first-time CCAA champions from the regular season, and thus added a first-ever tourney title. Palano needed two touches to put the decisive goal into the bottom left corner. The Tritons' leader in goals (six), assists (seven-tied) and points (19) was named the CCAA Tournament Most Valuable Offensive Player.

Mary Reilly - Soccer

Sophomore striker Mary Reilly scored the lone game-winner at 88:49 on Friday night at fifth-seeded host Stanislaus State to put No. 8 UCSD into the 2016 CCAA Tournament final. The record nine-time CCAA champion Tritons then completed their double with a record 10th tourney title on Sunday, 2-0 over Cal State LA. Reilly produced match highs of six shots and three shots on goal on Friday, and four shots and three shots on goal on Sunday. Reilly was named the CCAA Tournament Most Valuable Offensive Player.

Christian Cordell - Soccer

Sophomore winger Christian Cordell scored at 88:06 to cap an improbable comeback and give No. 10 UC San Diego a 2-1 victory and subsequent first-ever CCAA crown Saturday at 18th-ranked reigning West Region champion Cal Poly Pomona. The Tritons tied the winner-take-all tilt at 85:33, before Justice Duerksen's corner kick was slapped away by the goalie, only for Cordell to poke the ball home. It was his fifth goal of the year, and third game-winner, both now tied for the team lead, and all off the bench.

Katie O’Laughlin - Soccer

Junior striker Katie O’Laughlin scored her league- and West Region-leading 15th goal in the 75th minute Saturday as No. 8 UCSD rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit to win 2-1 over Cal Poly Pomona and cap the CCAA’s first perfect season since 1998. The Tritons completed the league slate at 12-0 for their first unblemished record, or even unbeaten mark, since joining the conference in 2000. They outscored CCAA opposition, 35-2. O’Laughlin, a Carlsbad native, assisted on Mary Reilly’s 64th-minute equalizer.

Tareq Alwafai - Cross Country

Fifth-year senior Tareq Alwafai led UC San Diego at the 2016 CCAA Championships Saturday in Ontario, placing third with a time of 24:40.3 over eight kilometers. It was the best finish by a Triton since James Nielsen was a repeat winner in 1999. The 12th-ranked Tritons were third as a team with 69 points, behind No. 4 Chico State (20) and No. 5 CPP (67). Alwafai earned his first career All-CCAA honor as one of the first 15 runners across. The Tritons will be in Billings, Mont., for the NCAA West Regionals on Nov. 5.

Mary Reilly - Soccer

Mary Reilly tallied three more goals, including both game-winners, as No. 9 UCSD continued its perfect run through the CCAA. The Chula Vista native produced her second brace of 2016 in Friday's 3-0 victory at Stanislaus State, scoring in the third minute of each half. She then also provided the 20th-minute opener in Sunday's 6-0 romp at Cal State East Bay. Reilly is second in the CCAA only to strike partner Katie O’Laughlin in goals (9) and points (27). She leads in assists (tied) and shots. The Tritons have won 11 straight.

Riley Harbour - Soccer

Senior midfielder Riley Harbour led No. 21 UCSD to two more shutout victories at home last week, as the Tritons have won five straight and taken over sole possession of first place in the CCAA table. The Loomis native scored the lone goal in Friday's primetime upset of No. 12 Cal State LA, with all three of his tallies this season now of the game-winning variety. Harbour then also played a vital role in a comprehensive 3-0 triumph on Senior Day Sunday over Cal State Dominguez Hills. UCSD completed the home schedule 9-0-1.

Amanda Sumrow - Swimming & Diving

Amanda Sumrow made a big splash in her UCSD debut Friday in a double dual meet at San Diego State against NCAA Division I foes SDSU and Vanderbilt. The sophomore transfer from NAU posted top-three finishes in all three events she competed in, touching the wall first in the 200 fly in her very first race as a Triton, before a pair of third-place efforts in the 100 fly and 200 IM. Her time of 2:02.99 in the 200 fly was one of four NCAA B cuts on the day for UCSD swimmers. The Tritons knocked off Vanderbilt, but fell to the Aztecs.

Justice Duerksen - Soccer

Senior winger Justice Duerksen was involved in both goals of a come-from-behind, 2-1 victory for UCSD with huge postseason implications at SF State on Friday, as the Tritons vaulted over the Gators in the league table. Duerksen's pressure-filled effort from the penalty spot tied it at 78:57. At 81:08, he beat an SFSU defender with a step-over move down the left flank, before sending a perfect left-footed cross that Uly de la Cal flicked into the goal to complete the rally. UCSD then won a third straight Sunday at CSUMB.

Meghan Berry - Soccer

Meghan Berry anchored No. 8 UCSD's back line to two more shutout victories on the road this past weekend. The Tritons are winners of seven straight, with four in a row via shutout. Sunday's 4-0 romp at CSUMB moved them into sole possession of first place in the league table, at a still-perfect 6-0. Berry and her side did not allow a single shot on goal Friday afternoon during a 2-0 defeat of SF State. UCSD then surrendered just four attempts on frame in Seaside on Sunday. The senior co-captain played all 180 minutes.

Kuba Waligorski - Soccer

Kuba Waligorski anchored the UCSD defense to two more shutouts at home last week, drawing with CCAA leader Sonoma State on Friday before a dramatic 1-0 overtime triumph over Humboldt State Sunday. The senior from Poland was instrumental as the Tritons did not surrender a goal over 207:12, and allowed just 13 shots, only four of them on target. They are now second nationally with a 0.28 goals-against average. UCSD’s latest shutout streak has stretched to 327:20. Opponents have managed three goals in 10 games.

Kiera Bocchino - Soccer

Kiera Bocchino had three goals and one assist to lead No. 8 UCSD to a pair of home wins last week, 2-0 over 19th-ranked CCAA leader Sonoma State on Friday, and 4-0 against Humboldt State Sunday. The fifth-year senior and co-captain tallied the 12th-minute winner against the Seawolves, before producing her fourth career two-goal brace and second of 2016, on Sunday. Bocchino scored UCSD's second and third goals, within a span of just 47 seconds, after assisting on the opener 14 seconds into the second half.

Tareq Alwafai - Cross Country

Redshirt senior Tareq Alwafai finished eighth out of 453 runners at the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota on Saturday. The Aliso Viejo product ran eight kilometers in 26:22.5 to lead No. 21 UC San Diego to a second-place finish out of 40 teams with 130 points. The Tritons finished ahead of three squads receiving votes or ranked in the latest USTFCCCA national poll in Black Hills State (third/149 points), No. 14 Western Washington (fifth/154) and No. 18 MSU Moorhead (sixth/283).

Karina Carstens - Cross Country

Sophomore Karina Carstens, a native of Exeter, took 16th out of 392 runners with a time of 23:32.6 over six kilometers at Saturday's Roy Griak Invitational hosted by Minnesota. As a team, UC San Diego edged out No. 8 Western Washington (210) by one point for fifth place out of 40 entrants with 209. The UCSD cross country squads are next in action on Saturday, Oct. 8, hosting the 24th annual Triton Classic on North Campus beginning at 8 a.m. with the men's 8k. The women's 6k follows at 9 a.m.

Cameron McElfresh - Soccer

Cameron McElfresh posted two individual clean sheets, 200 minutes worth, over a win and a tie as UCSD completed non-conference play an unbeaten 5-0-1. The fifth-year senior made one save in a 1-0 home victory over city rival Point Loma, and three more in a scoreless draw at Concordia. He thus matched former All-American teammate Josh Cohen's program record for the NCAA Division II era (since 2000) of 22 career shutouts. McElfresh hasn't allowed a goal in 409:03, and leads the CCAA with a .338 GAA.

Amanda Colla - Volleyball

Amanda Colla paced the women’s volleyball team to wins in its first two CCAA matches of the season last week at RIMAC Arena. The junior outside hitter from Carlsbad (San Dieguito Academy) registered a double-double in each match. Against Cal State Dominguez Hills, Colla had a team-high 13 kills to go along with 11 digs, three blocks and a service ace. The next night, she produced 10 kills, 14 digs and an ace. UCSD hosts cross-county rival Cal State San Marcos Saturday in the fourth annual Reis Cup (7 p.m.).

Christian Cordell - Soccer

Christian Cordell came off the bench to score in both of UCSD's shutout home victories last week as the Tritons improved to a perfect 4-0 for the first time since 2008. The sophomore winger from Huntington Beach notched his first collegiate goal on Thursday night in the 62nd minute, which proved to be the game-winner in a 1-0 triumph over 2015 national quarterfinalist and preseason No. 6 Colorado Mines. Cordell then tallied UCSD's third in a 6-0 rout of Saint Martin's on Saturday night.

Meagan Wright - Volleyball

Meagan Wright continued her torrid offensive play last week, putting away 4.20 kills/set over four matches, the best average of any player at the D2 West Region Showcase in La Jolla. Wright, out of San Diego (Bonita Vista HS), registered a double-double in each contest, extending her streak to 12 matches dating back to last season. She had a match-high 21 kills against Central Washington and another match-best with 16 kills versus Northwest Nazarene. For the tourney, Wright totaled 63 kills and 70 digs (4.67/set).

Sam Palano - Soccer

Senior Sam Palano was involved in three of four goals for UCSD over a pair of come-from-behind home wins. Against Azusa Pacific in Thursday's opener, Palano scored the equalizer in the 68th minute, picking the ball out of the air for a right-footed volley into the bottom left corner. Then with only 1:41 left in the second overtime, he fed a short cross from the left side of the box which identical twin brother Nick Palano converted for the decider. On Saturday against Westmont, Palano helped set up the 79th-minute winner.

Katie O’Laughlin - Soccer

Junior Katie O'Laughlin bagged her first collegiate hat trick in leading CCAA favorite UCSD to a 5-0 home thrashing of then-12th-ranked PacWest favorite Azusa Pacific in the opener for both teams last Thursday night. O'Laughlin, who was second in the CCAA a year ago with 10 goals scored only behind strike partner Mary Reilly's 11, needed a mere 27 seconds to begin her 2016 account. At 14:05, it was 2-0 Tritons as she headed in a corner kick. O'Laughlin completed her hat trick in the 86th minute to make it 4-0.
