AZUSA, Calif. - The University of California San Diego men's and women's track and field teams competed on the second and final day of the Bryan Clay Invitational, hosted by Azusa Pacific, Friday at Cougar Athletic Stadium.

Highlights from Friday included freshman Josef Polk's NCAA provisional qualifier in the 400-meter hurdles. He finished in eighth place overall with a mark of 52.84, No. 4 in the UCSD record book.

Junior Paul Doan (San Diego/St. Augustine HS) placed seventh in the 100-meter dash with an NCAA provisional time of 10.55, just off his school record of 10.53 he set last weekend at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational. He also turned in an 11th-place effort in the 200 for another pro mark, lowering his personal best from 21.48 to 21.46, still No. 2 in program history.

Junior Brett Molster's height of 6'8.75" in the high jump was good enough for a share of third place and a provisional qualfier.

Sophomore Nicholas Rack finished seventh in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.70, while freshman Claudia Cox placed 11th in the 400 hurdles, completing the race in an NCAA provisional time of 1:01.41.

The men's 4x400 relay of Makhai Husband, Adam Winding, Polk and senior anchor Jared Senese (San Diego/Mt. Carmel HS) finished first in their heat and fourth overall with a time of 3:16.27. The women's 4x400 of Jackie Chalmers, Marisa Padilla, Cox and Meghan Fletcher combined for 3:51.01 and ninth.

In the field events, Esther Nofodji had the Tritons' top performance in the discus, finishing 11th with a distance of 145'7.6".

From the distance contingent in the evening portion, Aren Johnson (3:54.97) and Timothy Corvese (3:55.01) produced personal bests in the 1500 on the men's side. Kailyn Scott's 5:19.66 was a season-best time behind Kristin Semancsin (4:42.82).

Earlier, freshman Alex Liebscher ran a season-best 1:57.76 in the men's 800, and Raélene deArmas a personal-best 2:17.67 in the women's competition.

UCSD now awaits its 2017 home finale, the annual Triton Invitational, next Friday and Saturday, April 21-22, at Triton Track & Field Stadium on North Campus in La Jolla.
