LA JOLLA, Cailf. - On Tuesday, the NCAA announced the 48 teams that qualified for the 2017 Division II Men's Tennis Championships and the University of California San Diego is the No. 2 seed in the West and will host third-seeded Azusa Pacific in a regional round contest on Monday, May 1.
The match will begin at 1 p.m. PT at Northview Courts and admission is free. Parking passes are required on campus on weekdays and can be purchased from kiosks in lots and structures.
The winner of the West Regional will join 15 other teams from around the nation at the NCAA Championships, May 9-12 in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
UC San Diego, ranked 12th nationally, holds an 11-10 overall record. Azusa Pacific, the 14th-ranked squad in the country, is 20-5. The Tritons and Cougars have met twice already this season with each team winning on the road by a 5-4 score.
UCSD is making its second-straight appearance in the NCAA postseason. Since becoming an NCAA Division II program for the 2001 season, UC San Diego has qualified for the tournament 15 times, missing out in 2012 and 2015.
Hawaii Pacific (16-4) is the West Region's No. 1 seed and received a preliminary round bye, advancing straight to the Championships in Florida. The Sharks are currently ranked sixth nationally.
