ELLENSBURG, Wash. - The University of California San Diego women's volleyball team had its five-match win streak come to an end Saturday as it suffered a 3-1 loss at Central Washington on the final day of action at the D2 West Region Volleyball Showcase.

Scores of the match were 17-25, 25-20, 25-20, and 25-14. With the loss, UC San Diego dropped to 6-2 overall. CWU, which was hosting the tournament at Nicholson Pavilion, improved to 5-3. Both teams received votes in the most recent national poll.

The Wildcats used 15 blocks to shut down the Tritons' offense. UCSD managed just a .106 attack with 53 kills and 34 errors in 180 attempts. It was the team's second-lowest percentage of the season.

"We came out in the first set and played great," said Triton head coach Ricci Luyties. "Central Washington made good adjustments on defense and started blocking and digging everything. They completely swung the momentum in their favor and never looked back."

Micah Hammond led UC San Diego with 11.5 points, the bulk of those coming from 11 kills. Amanda Colla (Carlsbad/San Dieguito Academy) had 10 kills and 21 digs, while Alyson Penrose amassed a career-best 23 digs. Setter Marie Paris finished her night with 30 assists, 16 digs, and a career-high four service aces. Rachel Linden served up three aces.

The Tritons held a 90-83 advantage in digs.

For the Wildcats, Shelby Mauritson led all players with 17.5 points and 15 kills. Sabrina Wheelhouse had 10 kills and eight blocks (two solos), Kyla Morgan had 34 digs, and Sara Joffs had seven blocks (one solo).

UC San Diego hit .282 in the opening set, while Central Washington swung at .056. The Tritons then went .130, .150, and -.106, while the Wildcats went .220, .239, and .158.

UCSD went 3-1 at the tourney with wins against Concordia (Ore.), Azusa Pacific, and Dixie State. Colla was named to the All-Tournament Team as she averaged 4.03 points, 3.47 kills, and 4.20 digs over the four matches.
