BILLINGS, Mont. — The No. 23-ranked University of California San Diego women’s basketball team had two standout players named to the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (CCA) All-West Region Team, the association announced on Monday.

UC San Diego senior forward Dalayna Sampton earned first-team honors, while sophomore forward Mikayla Williams received second-team recognition.

Sampton is joined on the first team by Montana State Billings forward Alisha Breen, Dominican guard Natalie Diaz, Azusa Pacific guard Abbigail Goodsell and Point Loma forward Roya Rustamzada. Breen was selected D2CCA West Region Player of the Year.

All five first-team selections will now be placed on a national ballot and are eligible to be named D2CCA All-America.

Williams is joined on the second team by Chico State guard Whitney Branham, Dominican forward Sandra Ikeora, Northwest Nazarene guard Lexi Tubbs and Alaska Anchorage center Hannah Wandersee.

The PacWest had four players land on the all-region team, while both the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) and Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) had three apiece.

Sampton, the 2017-18 CCAA Player of the Year, averaged 14.6 points and a team-high 10.9 rebounds this season, en route to leading the Tritons to a 28-5 overall record, a CCAA regular-season championship and appearance in the NCAA Division II West Region Semifinals.

The senior from Vallejo, Calif., finished the season fourth in the nation in total rebounds (359) and 12th in rebounds per game (10.9). She also ranked tied for ninth in the country with 17 double-doubles.

Williams led the Tritons in scoring this season, averaging 15 points per game with 9.3 rebounds per contest, and was named to the All-CCAA Second-Team.

The sophomore from Meath Park, Saskatchewan, Canada finished tied for 17th in the nation in total rebounds (307), 34th in field-goal percentage (54.1) and is tied for 21st in the country with 14 double-doubles.

The Division II CCA encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact Division II intercollegiate athletics, while working closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
