RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. — The University of California San Diego men's rowing team kept its momentum going by earning first place in four separate events at the Western Sprints Championships at Lake Natoma on Saturday.

The Tritons Varsity 8+ crew placed first with a time of 6-minutes, 1.8-seconds, holding off second-place University of San Diego (6:04.7) and third-place Santa Clara (6:05.5). UC San Diego's Varsity 8+ crew of Kelsey Hirota, Kenneth Padden, Sean Callaghan, Tazio Capozzola, Steven Bolton, Jason Germain, Greg Coffman, Gabriel Lane and Garen Doyle is coming off a third-place finish in last weekend's Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) Championships, as Callaghan and Lane each earned All-WIRA First-Team honors.

Also on Saturday, The Tritons Varsity 2 crew continuted its strong season, recording a first-place finish with a time of 6:04.9. UC San Diego held off Santa Clara (6:05.1) in a close race down the stretch. 

The Tritons Varsity 3 8+ crew took first with a time of 6:16.59, while UC San Diego's Varsity Four (7:01.7) won a head-to-head matchup over Santa Clara (7:08.9) by a comfortable margin.

Up next, UC San Diego competes in the IRA National Championships June 1-3 in Princeton, N.J.
