SAN RAMON, Calif. —University of California San Diego men’s cross country sophomore Elijah Horwitz has been named California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Runner of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday. It is Horwitz’s first-career runner of the week honor and the Tritons’ first this season.

Horwitz placed fourth overall at the University of San Diego Invitational on Sept. 15 at Tecolote Shores North Park at Mission Bay. The sophomore crossed the finish line of the men’s 8K in 26-minutes, 14-seconds.

A native of San Francisco, Horwitz has now finished first among Tritons in two-consecutive meets to begin the 2018 season. He also placed fifth overall (25:25.1) at the Mark Covert Classic on Sept. 1.

Currently ranked No. 7 in the West Region, the UC San Diego men’s team has finished second in each of its two meets this season.

The Tritons return to action at the Coyote Challenge hosted by Cal State San Bernardino this Saturday, Sept. 22, beginning at 8 a.m.
