Tritons Fourth, Hayden Hui Ties for 10th as Sonoma State Invitational Wraps Up

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. - Another exceptional round of golf paced the University of California San Diego to a fourth-place finish Tuesday at the season-opening Sonoma State Invitational at Foxtail Golf Club. Junior Hayden Hui led the Tritons individually, tying for 10th.

UC San Diego fired a 290 (+2) in Tuesday's third and final round to go along with a 307 (+19) and a 289 (+1) on Monday, giving the Tritons an 886 (+22) over the 54-hole tournament. Their 289 was the lowest second round score by any of the eight competing teams. UC San Diego was eighth after the opening round and sixth following the second round.

Hui finished with a 219 (+3) after carding rounds of 75 (+3), 71 (-1), and 73 (+1). He was tied for 10th at the end of Monday's play as well. Hui totaled 38 pars, the third-most of any player, and also ranked third with his 2.92 stroke average on par 3 holes.

Hui posted UC San Diego's best finish at the event last season as well, tying for seventh. 

Junior Adam Navigato (Solana Beach/Torrey Pines HS) (78-72-71--221) moved up seven places in the standings to finish in a tie for 14th. Classmate Justin Woo (San Diego/Torrey Pines HS) (79-75-71--225) improved by 11 spots and finished in a tie for 21st. Sophomore Jacob Johnson (75-71-80--226) tied for 23rd and freshman Ethan Chen (80-79-75--234), who jumped up eight places, tied for 35th.

Playing as an individual and not figuring into the team scoring, Triton freshman Jared Gross (73-74-79--226) also tied for 23rd. He holed the team's lone eagle.

Sonoma State led wire-to-wire and finished with an 863 (-1), the only team under par. Holy Names (867) placed second and Cal State Dominguez Hills (885) was a distant third, just a single stroke in front of the Tritons.

SSU's Blake Bourelle recorded rounds of 67 (-5), 70 (-2), and 71 (-1) for an eight-under 208 to top the 46-player field. Dominican's Matt Fry (69-70-71--210) was two strokes behind in second, while Colin Casey (69-70-73--212) of Menlo College finished third.

UC San Diego next competes at the Saint Martin's Invitational, Sept. 21-22 at The Home Course in DuPont, Wash.
