Instant Classic: Triton Men Place Fourth, Women Fifth at 26th Annual Triton Classic

LA JOLLA, Calif. — There’s nothing like competing in front of fellow Tritons.

The University of California San Diego cross country teams hosted the 26th annual Triton Classic at the North Campus Course on Saturday morning, with a big turnout for Homecoming Weekend.

The Triton men placed fourth in the 8K, led by sophomore Elijah Horwitz’s 17th-place overall finish, while the women earned fifth place in the 6K behind a 23rd-place finish by junior Camille Perkins.

But just as important as the final results was the Tritons’ opportunity to show off their talent in front of family, friends and alumni.

“It’s really exciting going into it,” said senior Alexandra Hernandez. “All the alumni come back for Homecoming Weekend and we’re excited to have them. It brings completely different energy. Running the course, it helps having them next to us cheering us on.”

Women’s Recap

UC San Diego finished fifth as a team with 150 points, finishing ahead of No. 11-ranked Azusa Pacific (8th/191) and California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) foe Cal State LA (10th/265) among others.
