SAN DIEGO – Tina Reuter of the No. 4 University of California San Diego women’s swimming and diving team was named a Star of the Month for January by the San Diego Sports Association. The organization announced its winners on Monday afternoon.

Reuter was dominant throughout the month of January, competing in all five of the Tritons’ meets. Most recently, when the Tritons hosted Cal Baptist on Jan. 19, Reuter took first in each event she competed in. In the 200 freestyle, the freshman posted a time of 1:52.44. Reuter also claimed first in the 200 backstroke, touching the wall in 2:06.42.

For her final event of the meet, Reuter led off the A squad’s 400 free relay, helping the team to a time of 3:28.73. Their time was over three seconds faster than the Cal Baptist A team. Reuter swam to a mark of 51:57 in her leg of the event.

A week earlier, Reuter also earned first place in all of her individual events. Facing Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) rival Cal Poly, the Carmichael native took first in the 200 free (1:53.60), 200 back (2:04.48), and 200 IM (2:04.53).

Reuter posted an even better time in the 200 IM against UC Santa Barbara on Jan. 11. Defeating her Division I Gaucho opponents by more than three seconds, Reuter came in at 2:03.67.

It was a month full of impressive performances for Reuter, who also took first in the 200 butterfly (2:05.29) and 200 back (2:05.39) against LMU, CSU Bakersfield, and CSU East Bay, as well as the 400 IM (4:25.97) against Incarnate Word and Wyoming. Her time in the 200 fly earned her a B cut.

Reuter was one of two UC San Diego recipients of the award, as Mikayla Williams of the women’s basketball team also garnered Star of the Month recognition. The Stars of the Month receive a Breitbard Certificate of Athletic Achievement, and are recognized in the San Diego Union-Tribune, the Fowler Family Awards Center at Petco Park, and at the Salute to the Champions awards gala.
