Golfers Return to Action Sunday in San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO - Coming off a season-best third-place finish, the University of California San Diego men's golf team returns to action Sunday at the Bay Area Invitational, hosted by Academy of Art at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco.
The three-day, 54-hole tournament features single rounds of 18 on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.
Joining UC San Diego and Academy of Art in the 16-team field will be British Columbia, Cal State Dominguez Hills, Cal State East Bay, Concordia (OR), No. 25 Dixie State, Dominican, Hawai'i Hilo, Holy Names, Notre Dame de Namur, Saint Martin's, San Francisco, Sonoma State, St. Mary's (CA), and No. 6 Western Washington.
Playing for the Tritons are:
1. Hayden Hui (Jr., 72.7 stroke average)
2. Adam Navigato (Solana Beach/Torrey Pines HS) (Jr., 74.9)
3. Elliot Bunyaviroch (Fr., 75.0)
4. Justin Woo (San Diego/Torrey Pines HS) (Jr., 75.5)
5. Ryan Vaughan (So., 77.0)
Most recently, UC San Diego took third at the CSUSM Fujikura Invitational after totaling a 592 (+16) over two rounds. The Tritons shot a 300 (+12) in the opening round and following that with a 292 (+4) in the second and final round. They were seventh at the end of Monday's play and ultimately placed behind only ninth-ranked Oklahoma Christian and eighth-ranked Chico State.
Hui tied for sixth, Bunyaviroch tied for 15th, Navigato tied for 18th, Woo tied for 23rd, and Vaughan tied for 42nd. Hui carded a two-under 70 in round two to go with his two-over 74 in round one.
It was the first event with the Tritons for UC San Diego's Interim Head Coach Fred Hanover.
Play begins Sunday at 9:30 a.m. Monday's and Tuesday's rounds are set for 7 a.m. starts. All three days of action can be followed with live scoring.
