LA JOLLA, Calif. – The No. 14 University of California San Diego softball team will travel north to face the Seawolves in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action this weekend. The series is now a four-game series that will be played at Santa Rosa Junior College. A doubleheader will be played at 11 a.m. on Friday, and it will be followed by another doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

The Tritons enter the series at 15-3 on the season and 13-2 in CCAA play, while Sonoma State stands at 5-7 overall and 3-4 in conference action. This will be UC San Diego’s fourth neutral site matchup of the season, and it holds a 2-1 record.

Last year, the two teams opened conference play against each other. UC San Diego and Sonoma State split the series, with the Tritons taking the series opener and the final contest. The Tritons were dominant in game one, with a 9-1 victory in five innings. Robyn Wampler did not allow an earned run during her complete-game win. Sherriah Harrington contributed at the plate, driving in a pair of runs.

The Tritons previously battled Humboldt State in a tripleheader. UC San Diego took the series after narrowly falling, 5-6, in game one. It was a dramatic ending to game two, as Danica Kazakoff stepped up to the plate in the seventh inning with a tie game, two outs, and the bases loaded. Kazakoff came up with a clutch single to center field to secure the walk-off win, 9-8, for UC San Diego. The bats were hot again in game three, as the Tritons finished the series with a five-inning 8-0 victory.

Sonoma State was scheduled to play on Wednesday at San Francisco State, but the series was postponed. Previously, the Seawolves faced Cal State Dominguez Hills in a doubleheader. After falling 3-13 in game one, the Seawolves bounced back with a 10-2 win in game two.

Following this series, the Tritons will return home for a pair of doubleheaders with San Francisco State. The series will begin at 4 p.m. on March 14, and will continue at 12 p.m. on March 15. March 15 will be Breast Cancer Awareness Day.
