Accomplished coach and professional player Roberto Rodriguez joined the UC San Diego Women's Volleyball coaching staff in May of 2019.

As a coach, Rodriguez has spent time at Temecula Valley High School in California (2017-19), Viper Volleyball Club (2016-19), Cal State LA (2018), and the University of the Sacred Heart (2012-16).

At Temecula Valley, Rodriguez served as the Program Director and Varsity Head Coach. The 2018 Inland Empire Coach of the Year, he led the Golden Bears to a CIF Division I state championship while mentoring the Inland Empire Player of the Year, three All-Southwestern League First Team members, and a pair of second team honorees. In 2017 the team finished as league champion and produced five all-conference players, three of those selected to the first team.

At the helm of Viper Volleyball Club, Rodriguez helped the team to several strong finishes at Junior Nationals, including fifth-place showings in 2017 and 2018. He also was Program Director and Head Coach of the Viper Beach Volleyball Club.

In 2018, Rodriguez was a volunteer assistant at Cal State LA, a team that competes against UC San Diego in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).

For four years, Rodriguez was the Head Beach Volleyball Coach at the University of the Sacred Heart in San Juan, Puerto Rico. In charge of both the men and women's programs, he was twice voted Coach of the Year at Sacred Heart.

As a beach player, Rodriguez represented Puerto Rico in 50 NORCECA tournaments between 2008 and 2015, medaling in 36 of those (7 gold, 13 silver, 16 bronze). He also played on the AVP Tour for several years and earned four podium finishes, including a win at the San Francisco Open in 2018.

Indoors, Rodriguez played for several professional clubs in Puerto Rico and Switzerland.

Rodriguez earned a bachelor's degree in Exercise Science and Health Promotion with a minor in Marketing from Sacred Heart in 2012. He graduated high school from Colegio La Merced in San Juan in 2004.
