PHILADELPHIA – The University of California San Diego men’s rowing team travels across the country this weekend, heading to Philadelphia for a scrimmage with St. Joseph’s and to take part in the 53rd annual Kerr Cup Regatta.

On Friday, the Tritons and Hawks will scrimmage in preparation for the Kerr Cup Regatta. The following day, UC San Diego will participate in the Kerr Cup Regatta for the fourth-straight year. The storied regatta has taken place since 1967, and the Tritons will look to capture the Dr. Thomas Kerr Cup, named for host university Drexel’s first head coach. Live results from the Kerr Cup Regatta will be available here.

“We are really looking forward to see what progress we have made since our last meeting with Drexel, as well as testing our speed against East Coast competition before ending our regular season racing at WIRA and Western Sprints,” said Head Coach Zach Johnson. “This regatta will set us up well for the last stretch of big races coming up.”

The Tritons previously competed locally at the San Diego Crew Classic, compiling a successful weekend as they raced crews from across the country. UC San Diego’s Varsity 8 squad turned in a runner-up finish in the Men’s Varsity American Specialty Health Cup Final 1, trailing only Purdue. To view the full recap, click here.

Next, the Tritons enter the championships portion of their season. The action begins with the two-day Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) Championships, which are slated to take place April 27-28 at Rancho Cordova.
