No. 13 Tritons Earn West Region's Second Seed, Will Host West Regional
INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 13 University of California San Diego softball team has earned the West Region’s second seed and will host the West Regional #2 from May 9-11. The NCAA announced its qualifiers for the NCAA Division II Softball Championship on Monday morning.
Sixty-four teams earned spots in the tournament, including 24 that earned their conference’s automatic bids. The NCAA selection committee picked the remaining 40 teams.
Competing at the Tritons’ West Regional #2 will be two California Collegiate Athletic Association foes, as well as a Great Northwest Athletic Conference opponent. Chico State (29-15) nabbed the third seed in the West Region, Sonoma State (35-18) earned the sixth seed, and Central Washington (33-18) came away with the seventh seed.
The tournament is a double-elimination format. UC San Diego’s first game is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Thursday, as they prepare to take on Central Washington.
Regional play will take place at 16 sites from May 9-11. Following that, the remaining teams will compete in the super regionals from May 16-17. The tournament culminates with the finals, which will be held from May 23-27 in Denver at the Regency Athletic Complex.
