Jack Turner, Kacper Langiewicz Named to Team USA Roster for World University Games

IRVINE, Calif. — UC San Diego men’s water polo standouts Jack Turner and Kacper Langiewicz have been selected to join the Team USA National Team roster for the 2019 World University Games, USA Water Polo recently announced.

The Triton duo will represent Team USA at the 30th Summer Universiade this summer July 2-14 in Naples, Italy. Team USA will look to improve on its ninth-place finish at the event in 2017.

Turner made his debut in the FINA World Cup last fall in Berlin, Germany, recording eight saves in a victory over South Africa. 

The Fremont, Calif., native is coming off a spectacular redshirt junior season, earning ACWPC Division II Player of the Year honors after leading UC San Diego to the National Collegiate Water Polo Championship Semifinals. He was an All-Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) First-Team selection and was named WWPA Tournament MVP.

Turner finished the year with 251 saves, tied for a team-high with 23 steals and scored his first-career goal against Pepperdine on Oct. 12.

Langiewicz had a breakout season in 2018 as a redshirt junior, ranking second on the Tritons with 35 goals and leading the team with 53 drawn exclusions en route to landing on the All-WWPA Second Team. 

The San Marcos, Calif., native capped off his tremendous season by earning NCAA All-Tournament Second-Team accolades. 

UC San Diego (20-6) had its second-best winning percentage in program history last season (.769), finished No. 5 in the nation in the final CWPA Top 20 poll and won the WWPA Championship for the 19th time in school history.
