NEW ORLEANS — The University of California San Diego men’s and women’s track and field programs each earned United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team honors for the 2019 outdoor season, the association recently announced.

The UC San Diego women’s team posted a combined GPA of 3.17, while the men’s team had a GPA of 3.03. A total of 209 track and field programs where recognized by the USTFCCCA for their academic achievements, including 130 women’s programs and 79 men’s programs.

In addition, the Tritons had six scholar-athletes receive USTFCCCA All-Academic individual accolades.

UC San Diego honorees include freshman Zachary Aanstoots (business psychology), senior Natalie Caraway (education), junior Chelsea Challacombe (math/computer science), senior Nick Famolaro (public health), junior Christian Kallenberg (international studies) and sophomore Evan Shimasaki (chemistry).

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Award, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and have reached a provisional or automatic qualifying standard for the NCAA Championships in either the indoor or outdoor season.

UC San Diego had four standouts earn NCAA All-America accolades in 2019, and a total of 11 scholar-athletes earn USTFCCA All-West Region honors.
