LA JOLLA, Calif. – The University of California San Diego Athletic Department teamed up with the La Jolla/Riford branch of the San Diego Public Library to put on a fun and engaging story time event for preschoolers on Thursday morning. The event featured special guest King Triton, the UC San Diego mascot.

During story time, around 30 children listened to stories that encouraged movement and engagement. Along with members of the Triton dance team, King Triton showed the kids how to be active while they listened to the stories.

The fun continued after story time. The dance team members did dances with the children and taught them how to do the trident hand symbol. Then, the kids had the opportunity to take photos with King Triton.

"We had a blast at Thursday’s story time," said Youth Services Librarian Dana Sanchez. "With interactive stories that focused on moving our bodies, we wiggled, danced, sang, and even learned a Triton cheer! Our littlest guests enjoyed getting to meet King Triton and positive athletic role models…we even had a few children of UC San Diego alumni in attendance!"

The successful event was the first ever story time with King Triton. For more information on story time and other activities at the La Jolla library, visit their events page here
