Delaney Whittet Earns CoSIDA Academic All-District Accolade

UC San Diego

LA JOLLA, Calif. – Delaney Whittet of the No. 14 University of California San Diego women’s soccer team has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 8 Division II First Team.

The Academic All-District selection is Whittet’s first of her career. She is one of 12 student-athletes and five defenders chosen to the first team, and will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot, which will be voted on next month.

Whittet has excelled in the classroom and on the pitch. Academically, the junior holds a 3.86 cumulative GPA, majoring in communication and minoring in entrepreneurship and innovation.

On the field, Whittet is one of three team captains for the nationally-ranked Tritons. The defender has been key to the Tritons’ success this season, as they hold a 14-1-1 record. UC San Diego’s stingy defense has recorded 12 shutouts in its 16 matches for the nation’s fourth-highest shutout percentage (0.75).

The Manhattan Beach native has started all 16 contests this season. Along with goalkeeper Angelica Ramos, Whittet is the only other Triton to play all 1,473 minutes.

Whittet and the second-seeded Tritons will return to action in the semifinals of the CCAA Tournament. UC San Diego will host the match at 7 p.m. on Nov. 15 at Triton Soccer Stadium.
