COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The UC San Diego men’s and women’s fencing teams travelled to Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs for the regional round of the NCAA National Championship. The women’s team took three second-place finishes, Raelyn Jacobson in sabre, Chelsea Ambort in epee and Zitin Kachru in foil. The best result from the men’s squad was John Chung who had a fourth place finish in men’s foil and is the first alternate for the NCAA’s.
The selections to advance to the national championships in Houston used a combination of regional results plus the season results. The Tritons will send three women (Jacobson, Ambort and Jen Chun) to represent UCSD at the NCAA Nationals in Houston. Jacobson will be making her second trip to Nationals. Previously she was an All-American in epee. Ambort will be making her second appearance at Nationals and Jen Chun is a freshman.
On the men’s side, John Chung was UCSD’s top performer and is the first alternate at Nationals.
The NCAA Nationals are heald March 16-19 in Houston, Texas.
