HOUSTON, Texas - The UC San Diego fencing team finished the women's competition in 12th place out of 23 schools at the NCAA Championships in Houston on Friday afternoon. Chelsea Ambort was UCSD's top finisher with a 10th place finish in women's Epee. Also competing was Raelyn Jacobson with her 21st place finish in women's saber. Jen Chun finished 20th in women's foil. The championships continue on Saturday and Sunday with the men's competition. UCSD's John Chung is representing the Tritons as an alternate. Rice University and the Harris County-Houston Sports Authority is the host of the championships at the JW Marriott Hotel in Houston, Texas.

Jacobson previously competed in the NCAA Championships in 2002 in a different discipline, the same year she was named an All-American and the UCSD Athlete of the Year.

Ambort, an NCAA Championship selection and team MVP as a freshman in 2005, improved with her 10th place finish after accumulating nine victories last year and finishing in 18th place.

This was Chun's first nationals appearance.
