Track & Field Concludes Regular Season, Awaits NCAA Selections

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The UC San Diego men’s and women’s track and field teams completed the 2006 regular season with a strong showing at the Occidental Invitational on Saturday. The Triton men and women will now await word on the qualifiers for the 2006 NCAA Division II Track & Field Nationial Championships that will be held May 25-27 in Emporia, Kansas. The qualifiers will be announced by the NCAA on Tuesday, May 16.

 

UCSD had six standout performances on the final day of the regular season. Jon Patton improved on his NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 400 meter hurdles with a mark of 51.49 seconds. Daniel Anderson met a NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 800 meters with his season best mark of 1:52.73.

 

Mike Cunningham posted the second fastest time in school history in the 400 meters, crossing the finish line in a time of 48.00. That mark is a NCAA provisional time. Additionally, the UCSD men’s 4x400 meter squad set a new school record and met a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 3:13.73, winning the race by nearly four full seconds.

 

On the women’s side, Mimi Hodgins finished sixth in the race but posted a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 2:11.98 in the 800 meters. UCSD’s 4x400 meter relay team won its race with a time of 3:49.03, finishing ahead of Cal State San Marcos, Azusa Pacific and Westmont.
