DAVEY, HODGINS HEAD 2005-06 HONOREES

Three-time soccer All-American Matt Davey and Mimi Hodgins, who garnered All-American accolades in both cross country and track & field, were named the Outstanding Senior Student-Athletes of 2005-06 at last Wednesday night’s Athletics Recognition Dinner...The annual event, which drew over 600 people, was held at the UCSD Price Center Ballroom.

Davey and Hodgins, both scheduled to graduate later this month, were chosen for their superior combination of athletic and academic excellence...Davey has a cumulative 3.8 GPA in bioengineering while Hodgins sports a 3.3 GPA in anthropology.

The pair were also among 15 selected as Athletes of the Year...They were joined by Chelsea Ambort (fencing), Susan Bell (swimming), Scott Clement (baseball), Mike Cunningham (track & field), Megan Dickey (soccer), Briana Hinga (basketball/track & field), Jonathan Hopkins (water polo), Garrett Imeson (baseball), Leora Juster (basketball), Sophie Levy (swimming), Henry Patterson (basketball), Jon Patton (track & field) and Jenny Spencer (softball).

Seventh-year track & field head coach Tony Salerno received the Excellence in Coaching Award and 1987 graduate Brandon Nixon, a former basketball player and successful local businessman, was the given the Distinguished Alumni Athlete Award.

Other awards and winners included Husar Family/TAA Award – Kaitlin Foe (water polo)...Chancellor’s Scholar-Athletes – Flynn LaRochelle (water polo), Michelle DiMeo (cross country/track & field), Elisa Goodman-Tuchmayer (fencing), Niki Anderson (softball), Cara Kuebert (crew) and Davey...Parent Recognition – Marty & Dan Molden...Team GPA Award – Women’s Cross Country...Team Spirit Award – Men’s Cross Country.
