UCSD FINISHES 6TH IN DIRECTORS' CUP STANDINGS

Utilizing a series of strong spring performances, UC San Diego moved up 18 places to finish sixth in the final 2005-06 United States Sports Academy Directors' Cup standings for NCAA Division II...Sitting 24th after the final winter rankings were released, the Tritons made a big move by racking up points in men's and women's tennis, men's and women's track & field and women's crew during the spring season.

Overall, with 11 of 23 teams reaching NCAA post-season competition, UCSD accrued 497.5 points...Grand Valley State (MI) won its third consecutive D-II Directors' Cup title while Abilene Christian (TX), Nebraska-Omaha, Southern Illinois-Edwardsville and Cal State Bakersfield rounded out the top five.

It was UCSD's second sixth place finish in a row...Since moving to Division II in the fall of 2000, the Tritons have wound up fourth (2000-01), third (2001-02), 12th (2002-03) and second (2003-04) to go along with the back-to-back sixth place results.

Two weeks ago, UCSD was named the inaugural winner of the CCAA's Commissioner's Cup, emblematic of the top overall program in the conference.
