A four-year letterman and three-time All-American, Cross teamed up with Jeff Bethard to make the finals of the NCAA Division III doubles championship in 1993.

Following graduation, he attended the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in San Francisco, where he graduated in 1999. Cross then began practicing dentistry as an associate in Newport Beach and recently purchased the practice.

He and his wife, Sarah, were married in November 2004, now have a six-month-old son, Jack, and live in Irvine. She played No. 1 at Elon College (NC) and the two occasionally participate in mixed doubles tournaments together. Cross still plays in about 10 tennis tournaments per year.
