FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. – The 5th-ranked UC San Diego women’s cross country team finished fourth out of 29 teams while the Triton men finished 13th out of 52 teams at the 21st Annual Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday. The prestigious race was hosted by the University of Minnesota at the Les Bolstad Golf Course in Falcon Heights.
Juniors Diane Dunn and Emily McGregor were the top two finishers for UCSD on Saturday, crossing the line in 9th and 26th places, respectively, out of 278 individual runners. The duo posted times of 23:14.90 and 23:50.35 on the 5k course.
Amanda Burkhardt crossed the finish line in a time of 24:00.90, finishing 32nd overall in the race. Senior Nina Miller finished just one spot behind the junior, ending the race in 33rd place with a time of 24:02.75. Sophomore Ashleigh Montgomery was the fifth UCSD runner to conclude the race, finishing 45th overall with a time of 24:20.35.
Freshman Jordana Henderson finished just one spot behind Montgromery with her time of 24:02.75 while sophomore Catherine Strouse finished 72nd with her time of 24:41.50. Sophomore Jessica DiMascio and freshman Marie Schaper rounded out the Triton runners in the race, crossing the finish line in 87th and 203rd places overall with times of 24:53.70 and 27:04.50, respectively.
On the men’s side, freshman Jesse Morrill and sophomore Jake LeVieux finished 48th and 50th overall out of 509 runners with times of 27:01.30 and 27:04.50. Junior Greg Geldman crossed the line in a time of 27:21.10, good enough for 82nd place on the day.
UCSD’s lone senior, Daniel Holligan, was the fourth Triton to finish the race, crossing the finish line in a time of 27:50.55, which was the 126th fastest time of the day. Sophomore Gabe LaMothe rounded out the UCSD scorers on the day, finishing 136th overall with her time of 27:56.90.
Sophomore Daniel Anderson finished the race in 188th place with his time of 28:21.10 while freshman Mike Wright ended in 218th place with his time of 28:34.65. Junior John Yano finished 241st overall while sophomore Matthew Noble finished 286th. The duo posted times of 28:46.70 and 29:16.05, respectively.
Head coach Ted Van Arsdale and his squads return to La Jolla to host their next two events. The UCSD Triton Classic will be held on Saturday, October 7, while the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships will be hosted by UCSD on Saturday, October 21. The Triton women are the defending Champions in both events, while the men finished first at the 2005 Triton Classic and 3rd at the CCAA Championships last year in San Francisco.
