LA JOLLA, Calif. – The UC San Diego men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams continued to improve its times in its second meet in as many days on Sunday afternoon against UC Davis.  Having just swam at UCSB, the Tritons returned home to face another Division I opponent in UC Davis.  The Triton men’s team lost 157-143 as the Tritons won seven events.  UCSD won two relays and Devin Ancona, Evan Hsiao, Daniel Gordh and Tim Fuller won individual events.  On the women’s side, UCSD won four events in a 174-126 loss.  UCSD’s 200 medley relay team edged UCD’s, Susan Bell won the 100 back, Emily Harlan won the 50 free and Heather Szmidt won the 100 fly.

On the men’s side, Devin Ancona, Evan Hsiao, Jesse Marin and Fuller won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:33.63.  Ancona won the 100 back in 52.96 and placed second in the 200 back at 1:56.37.  Fuller won the 100 free at 45.52 and finished second in the 200 free at 1:42.98.  Hsiao won the 100 breast in 58.16, while Daniel Gordh won both diving events.  Marin had second place finishes in both the 200 fly (1:56.56) and the 100 fly (51.98).  Jacob Dong also swam to a second-place finish in the 200 breast.  The Tritons closed the day with a first-place finish in the 400 free relay (Ancona, Daniel Perdew, Todd Langland, Fuller) with a time of 3:07.69.

The UCSD women won the 200 medley relay as Susan Bell, Kendall Bohn, Heather Szmidt and Emily Harlan finished with a time of 1:47.54.  Bell also won the 100 back (59.01) and finished second in the 400 IM (4:33.64).  Harlan won the 50 free in 24.23 and Szmidt took top honors in the 100 fly 59.05.  Shannon Simonds had a pair of second-place finishes in the 200 free (1:55.08) and the 500 free (5:07.68).  Karla Holman finished second in the 200 fly at 2:07.19 and Jennifer Lappe took second in one-meter diving.  Bell led a Triton sweep in the 200 back as she finished with a time of 2:08.14, followed by teammates Aubrey Panis and Tori Edmiston. 

The UCSD swimming and diving teams are back in action on Saturday, November 11 when it hosts Cal State Bakersfield at 1:00 p.m. in Canyonview Pool.
