Shannon Simonds took top honors in the 200 IM.
LA JOLLA, Calif. – The UC San Diego men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams defeated conference rival Cal State Bakersfield in a dual meet on Saturday afternoon at Canyonview Pool. Both squads won seven of 13 events, with the UCSD’s women winning 141-102 and the men’s team winning 147.5-95.5. Some of UCSD’s top performers included the Triton women winning both relays and Emily Harlan winning both sprint events. Shannon Simonds, Karla Holman and Kendall Bohn also won individual events. On the men’s side, Tim Fuller swept both sprint events and Devin ANcona, Kelvin Le, Andrew Skewes and Dan Perdew also took top honors.
On the women’s side, the 400 medley relay team of Susan Bell, Bohn, Holman and Harlan won with a time of 3:56.02. Harlan won the 50 free in 24.19 and the 100 free in 52.93. Simonds won the 200 IM in 2:11.90 and Holman won the 200 fly in 2:07.39. Bohn took a top time in the 200 breast in 2:23.56. UCSD capped the day with a 400 free relay win with Liz Whiteley, Simonds, Aubrey Panis and Bell at 3:36.28.
On the men’s side, Devin Ancona, Evan Hsiao, Jesse Marin and Fuller won the 400 medley relay in 3:28.95. Fuller won the 200 free in 1:42.77 and the 100 free in 46.10. Perdew won the 50 free in 21.55 and Le won the 200 fly in 1:55.41. Ancona took the top spot in the 200 back in 1:56.15.
UCSD is back in action at the prestigious Speedo Cup Nov. 16-18 in Long Beach, Calif.
