LA JOLLA, Calif. – The UC San Diego men’s and women’s swimming team took on Utah and Wagner in a relay only meet on Friday afternoon in Canyonview Pool. The UCSD men won two of the five events, while taking second place in another. Tim Fuller, Steven Hardy and Jesse Marin won the 600 fly relay. In the 600 breast relay, Evan Hsiao, Andy Islip and Jake Dong took top honors. The Triton women’s team won the 300 medley relay, while placing second in the other four events (600 fly relay, 600 back, 600 breast and 500 free). Kendall Bohn, Aubrey Panis and Lauren O’Neill won the 300 medley with a time of 3:02.11. The UCSD women’s team is back in action at UCLA on January 6 in Los Angeles.
While the men’s team took first in the 600 fly relay and 600 back, the team of Devin Ancona, Hardy and Jacob Dong placed second in the 300 medley with a time of 2:46.55.
UCSD’s four, second-place finishes on the women’s side came in the 600 fly relay in 6:40.74 with Susan Bell, Shannon Simonds and Bohn. The 600 back team of Panis, Tori Edmiston and Susan Bell finished with a time of 6:35.67. In the 600 breast, Bohn, Carianne Cunningham and O’Neill finished at 7:31.87. The 500 free team of Liz Whiteley, Emily Harlan, Simonds and Andrea Lippin took second at 4:42.78.
After the Triton women face UCLA on January 6, UCSD will return home to face Loyola Marymount on Jan. 13. The meet will also be a Senior Day meet as the Tritons will honor their men’s and women’s swimming seniors, participating in their final meet on the La Jolla campus.
