UCSD Holds First Place after Day Three at the PCSC Championships in Long Beach

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The UC San Diego men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams maintained their first place spots after day three of the Pacific Collegiate Swimming Conference Championships in Long Beach.  The four-day event will conclude on Saturday night.  UCSD’s women’s team leads by 61 points, entering the final day.  Kendall Bohn took the title in the 100 breast with a lifetime best time of 1:05.03, ranking fourth nationally in the event.  The men’s team continues to lead by a comfortable 149 points.  In the 100 back, Devin Ancona was the lone Triton finishing second (52.01), also ranking in the UCSD top-10 and 18th nationally.

 

WOMEN’S Meet
        On the women’s 1 Meter board, FR Jennifer Lappe, FR Danielle Niculescu and JR Amanda Mason placed 12
th, 15th and 18th respectively.
        In the first swimming event of the evening, SR Susan Bell (4:29.40)(‘A’ cut), SR Lauren O’Neill (4:40.06)(‘B’ cut) and FR Tori Edmiston (4:41.73) all finalled, with Bell defending her title and O’Neill placing 6
th and Edmiston 7thBell’s time ranks her 3rd nationally in the event.  SR Emily Starkie (4:53.18p) swam in the bonus consolation finals, placing 21st overall.
        FR Karla Holman (57.31) and SO Jennifer Sims (57.38) competed in the championship heat, placing 3
rd and 4th.  Both swimmers were under the ‘A’ cut and also under the school record established earlier this season by Holman, and their times rank them 4th and 5th nationally.  JR Heather Szmidt (58.94) swam in the consolation finals, finishing 11th overall.
        In the 3
rd event of the night, SO Shannon Simonds (1:54.80) placed 11th in the consolation final, with SR Andrea Lippin (1:58.97) 22nd in the bonus consols heat.
        In the 100 Breast, SO Kendall Bohn continued the Triton breaststroke tradition, taking the title in a lifetime best (1:05.03)(‘A’ cut) , while SR Jenna Muenter (1:08.57) placed 14
th in the consolation final.  Bohn’s time ranks her 4th nationally in the event.
        In the last individual event of the night, SO Aubrey Panis (58.53p) and SR Emily Harlan (58.51p) finished 5
th and 8th, with both swimmers under the ‘B’ standard in the morning.
        In the 400 Medley Relay, the foursome of Bell (57.76), Bohn (1:05.11), Sims (56.49) and Harlan (51.41) defended their title, taking the win in an ‘A’ cut of 3:50.77.  Bell’s lead-off ranks her 8
th nationally, while Sims’ split was the fastest in school history.  Their time ranks them as the fastest in the country. 

MEN’S Meet
        In the 400 IM, UCSD placed 2 swimmers in the finals.  SO Steven Hardy (4:11.50) and SO Dan Gluvers (4:12.33) placed 4
th and 6th in the event, with SR Dan Gremban (4:24.42p) and FR Behan Salamati (4:15.96) placing 13th and 17th overall.
        In the 100 Fly, SR Jesse Marin (51.07p) and FR Taylor Cox (52.86p) placed 4
th and 7th.  Marin’s time ranks him 8th All-Time at UCSD and 18th nationally.
        In the 200 Free, the Triton trio of SR Tim Fuller (1:40.98), JR JP Oliver (1:42.22) and FR Greg Goodell (1:45.31) finished 4
th, 5th and 8th, while in the consolation finals SO Artur Kubalski (1:43.99) and FR Dan Perdew (1:44.65p) placed 12th and 13th.  All swimmers were under the ‘B’ standard.
        In the 100 Breast, JR Evan Hsiao (56.49), SR Jacob Dong (58.88) and FR Andy Islip (59.29p)placed 2
nd, 5th and 8th in the championship heat, while JR Ryan Kloos (1:02.55) placed 16th in the consolation finals.  Hsiao’s time ranks him 2nd nationally, while Dong’s was under the ‘B’ cut.
        In the 100 Back, FR Devin Ancona (52.01) was the lone Triton, placing 2
nd, also ranking him 10th All-Time at UCSD and 18th nationally.
        And in the final event of the night, Hardy (51.76), Hsiao (57.31), Marin (50.65) and Fuller (43.98) combined for a  2
nd place finish in the 400 Medley Relay, finishing in an ‘A’ cut 3:23.70, which ranks them 5th nationally.  Fuller’s eye-popping split was the fastest in school history.
