FRESNO, Calif. - Several UC San Diego track & field student-athletes qualified for Saturday's finals at the Cal-Nevada Championships with their times or marks during the preliminaries on Friday. The championship events will begin on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Only two events had its finals on Friday, the men's and women's 5,000 meters. UCSD's Emily McGregor posted a second place finish with her time of 17:27.63, finishing only behind Clair Rethmeier of UCLA who won the event with her time of 17:12.02. Daniel Holligan and Greg Geldman finished 9th and 11th, respectively, on the men's side.

Diane Dunn qualified for the finals in the 1500 meters with her time of 4:41.93 during day one of the meet. Her time was the fifth fastest of the 12 who qualified for Saturday's finals.

Laiah Blue broke her own school record and had the fastest qualifying time of any athlete in the 100 hurdles, breaking the tape in a time of 13.69 seconds. She smashed her own previous school record of 13.85 seconds that was set earlier this year. All of the other eight qualifiers in the event had times over 14 seconds.

Blue would also post the fastest qualifying time in the women's 400 hurdles, winning her heat and qualifying No. 1 with her time of 61.36 seconds. Teammate Corey Sheredy also qualified in the event with her time of 63.27.

Daniel Anderson's time of 1:53.02 was good enough to win heat four of the men's 800 meters and was the fourth fastest qualifying time in the event.

Junior college transfer Khalil Hooper qualified for Saturday's finals in the 110 hurdles with his time of 14.96 seconds in heat two on Friday. He was the sixth fastest of the nine qualifiers in the event.

In the field events, Linda Rainwater qualified for Saturday's finals in the high jump while Whitney Johnson qualified in both the long jump and triple jump. Jillian Sola and Sarah Hendy are both in the top-10 of the women's discus heading into Saturday while Torrey Trust sits in sixth place in the javelin.

Both Roger Francis and Casey Ryan made the qualifying leaps in the men's high jump and will compete for the title on Saturday.

Following Saturday's Cal-Nevada Championship finals, the Triton men and women will both return to action at home next Saturday, hosting the UCSD Quadrangular. The Tritons welcome Point Loma, Claremont, Cuyamaca CC and UC Riverside to the Triton Track & Field Stadium on April 7th. The meet will begin at 10 a.m.
