WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – UC San Diego’s Laiah Blue has been named the California Collegiate Athletic Association Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week for the week of March 27-April 1.
Blue, a junior from El Cajon, was named the Female Athlete of the Meet at the Cal-Nevada Championships on Saturday after she won both the 100-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles events, breaking the school record in both events.
She set a new UCSD record in the 100-meter hurdles during Friday's preliminaries with a time of 13.69 seconds, the fastest time by far this year of any woman nationally at the Division II level. She would win the event on Saturday clocking a time of 13.87 seconds.
Blue established a new Tritons record in the 400-meter hurdles in Saturday's finals, breaking the tape in a time of 60.59 seconds, which is also the fastest time of any Division II female student-athlete in the nation this season.
