Five schools from five different collegiate divisions took part in the meet. UC Riverside was the Division I representative while UCSD was the D-II entrant. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps was the D-III entrant while Point Loma represented the NAIA.
UCSD’s women posted 224 points in the 18 events that were scored on the day, 55 more than second place finisher, Point Loma (179). UC Riverside finished in third place with 135 points, followed by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps with 91.
On the men’s side, the Tritons won the meet with its 212.5 point performance on the day, 71.5 more than second place finisher Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (141). Point Loma was third with a team total of 132.5 while UC Riverside finished fourth with its 103 points on the day. Cuyamaca also finished in fifth place on the men’s side, posting a team total of 75 points.
Amber Green won the women’s 400 meters with her time of 57.38 seconds, claiming 10 big points for the Tritons. Diane Dunn also claimed 10 points with her win in the 1500 meters, breaking the tape in a time of 4:37.66.
In the women’s 100 meter hurdles, the Tritons had the top five finishers as Laiah Blue won the event with her time of 14.34 seconds. UCSD’s Christine Merrill, Kayleigh Knudsen, Linda Rainwater and Samantha Belvini were the next four fastest times in the event.
Whitney Johnson won the women’s long jump while Leah Murphy, who finished second in the women’s long jump, won the women’s triple jump. The only other UCSD women’s victory came in the 4x400 meter relay as the squad broke the tape in a time of 3:52.36.
The Tritons finished 1-2 in the men’s 1500 meters as Ryan Becijos edged out teammate Daniel Anderson for the victory. Becijos finished the race in a time of 4:02.24, 2.7 seconds faster than
Khalil Hooper had another strong showing in the 110 meter high hurdles, winning the event with his time of 14.94, nearly one full second ahead of second place.
Elliott Williamson won the men’s shot put while the UCSD men’s teams both won the 4x100 and 4x400 relay races to conclude the meet.
The Triton men and women will both compete next weekend at the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner Kersey Invitational hosted by UCLA on Friday and Saturday, April 13-14. A few student-athletes will also take part in the Mt. SAC Heptathlon/Decathlon that will take place on April 12 & 13 in
