AZUSA, Calif. - The UC San Diego women's track & field team placed three in the top-30 at the California Heptathlon Invitational on Thursday on the Azusa Pacific University campus. Linda Rainwater had an 11th place finish with her 4,573 point total while Kayleigh Knudson had a 24th place finish and Samantha Belvini finished in 27th. Knudsen posted a two-day total of 4,084 points while Belvini notched 3,722 points.
The two-day event was won by Emily Pearson of Colorado State who amassed a point total of 5,204 points. Her teammate Tonya Cura accumulated 4,966 points for second place.
Rainwater was less than 20 points off her school record in the event that was set earlier this year. She had a point total of 2,850 after the first day, tallying 806 points in both the 100 hurdles and the high jump. Her next highest point total, 767 points, came in the final event of the meet, finishing the 800 meters in a time of 2:24.25.
Knudsen's highest point toal of 777 points came in the 200 meters, crossing the finish line in a time of 26.23 seconds. Belvini's best event result also came in the 200 meters, garnering 676 points with her time of 27.43 seconds.
The rest of the UCSD track & field squad will be in Los Angeles on Friday and Saturday for the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner Kersey Invitational hosted by UCLA. The two-day event will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday.
