UCSD Finishes in Sixth-place at the NCAA DII Northwest/West Super Regional

LAKEWOOD, Col. The UC San Diego golf team finished in sixth-place at the NCAA Division II Northwest/West Super Regional on Wednesday afternoon.  The three-day event took place at the Fox Hollow Golf Course in Lakewood, Colorado.  The Tritons finished the final round with a 288 total and three-round score of 867.  Nathan Phan was UCSD’s top individual finisher, firing a final round score of 68.  Phan’s round included four birdies and an eagle, earning him a ninth-place overall finish.  Cal State San Bernardino won the team title, defeating Grand Canyon by three shots.  CSUSB’s Gene Webster won medalist honors with his final round of 67, defeating Sonoma State’s Jarin Todd by two shots.

 

 

Nathan Phan birdied his first and sixth holes of the day, and finished the front nine at -2, 34.  Phan then birdied his 12th hole and then picked up the Tritons first eagle, firing a three on the par-5 foruth hole (Phan started his round on the back nine).  With the eagle, Phan got to -5 on the day, through 13 holes.  After three bogies, Phan finished on a strong note, taking birdie on the final hole to finish at -3, 68.

 

Phan just missed out on making the NCAA Championships as an individual, as the top individuals from non-qualifying teams in both the Northwest and West Super Regional qualified.

 

 

Billy Olsen finished his first nine holes at -1, taking birdies on this first and eighth holes of the day.  On Olsen’s second-nine, he birdied both of the par-3’s, to shoot a back nine at +1, to sinish with an even-par round of 71.

 

Noah Moss had one birdie on the day, coming on his eighth hole of the afternoon.  Moss had a strong first nine holes, shooting a +2, before finishing the day with a round of +7, 78.

 

Ryan Bailey shot a -2, 34 on this first nine holes, with birdies on his fifth and ninth holes.  Bailey added one more birdie on his second nine, to shoot a final round of +3, 74.

 

Luke Leveillee was at -1 through his first eight holes before finishing his first nine at +1.  Leveille was at even-par through 15 holes, before finishing the final three at +4, to shoot his round of +4, 75.
